History of the Showcase of Citrus

"It's not just our home... its a snapshot of our Florida LEGACY."

Beginnings

In 1989, John Arnold Jr. opened The Showcase of Citrus in Clermont Florida. Then a small wooden building alongside a quiet Hwy 27 & nestled in orange groves; John was selling citrus to guests who happened to be passing by. He had a simple idea rooted in Florida soil; grow incredible citrus, care for the land, and share that experience with others.

As a fourth generation Citrus and Cattle farmer, John Arnold Jr. then in his mid 20’s realized that urban sprawl would most likely change the region and the rolling hills of citrus surrounding the farm. He would either be confronted with selling the land like others or adapt to change. Fortunately, he chose to adapt and focus on the growing tourism sector of Orlando, just east of Clermont & where a very well-known Mouse lived. John wanted to share his passion of a full farm experience for others to enjoy. The Showcase of Citrus family leaned into their identity as growers and stewards, and expanded using Agri-Tourism to keep farming alive and interesting.

As interest in visiting the farm grew, The Showcase of Citrus began offering activities beyond traditional u-pick citrus. Guests could climb aboard guided tours that traveled far beyond the roadside stand touring through groves and pastures on oversized vehicles. These tours offered a closer look at the property wildlife, lakes, and agricultural activity turning a simple visit into an experience. The country store naturally followed stocked with fresh citrus, local honey, jams, jelly, marmalades, and other Florida goods. It became the place where flavors of the farm could travel home with each guest. Over the years the Showcase added more activities, Gem mining, animal meet & greets, Exotic and Farm animal feeding areas, seasonal displays and special events that celebrated harvest seasons in Florida traditions.

Nuts and Bolts

In the mid 1990’s John modified an old Eco van, (that was said to be owned by Willy Nelson) put in a picnic table and took a small group of guests on a farm tour. That single tour literally got John’s “wheels rolling” and started a legacy of what we now call the Monster Truck Adventure.

Fast forward to 2012, John is taking on life’s challenges and continuing to expand The Showcase of Citrus. Hosting mud runs was an opportunity John did not want to miss. On a chilly morning in early December The Showcase welcomed hundreds of contestants for a mud Run and in walked contestant, Tara Boshell. John met Tara covered in mud, cow manure, and green algae- it was an unforgettable moment for the two of them.

John and Tara quickly blended their families. Together having 4 boys and 2 girls, similar passion for family, farming, the outdoors, antiques, and working for common goals, things were only going to grow bigger and better.

By blending citrus production, ranchland, conservation-minded practices, and family hospitality The Showcase of Citrus became more than a roadside attraction. It became a model of how a family farm can grow, adapt, and thrive, while staying true to its roots.

Due to hard work, dedication, and amazing staff, The Showcase of Citrus is a thriving family-owned destination. Guests from all over the world come to pick citrus, find treasures at a Gem Mine, interact with exotic animals, see hundreds of antique eclectic memorabilia, relax with a beer or glass of wine, watch kids play on an Oak tree playground, relax, & ride the iconic Monster trucks.

It Started With A Florida Idea...

"grow incredible citrus, care for the land, and share that experience with others"

Thanks to the perseverance of this family group and a commitment to the best use of the green space The Showcase of Citrus will continue expanding one of the most unique venues in the state of Florida; John and Tara plan to open a second, larger venue in Arcadia Florida (one hour east of Sarasota) in 2026. The new 500-acre location will focus on farming, fossils, animals, and ranch tours. A gorgeous, heavily, wooded acreage along creeks and tributaries to the Peace River is gem of old Florida that is too beautiful not to share.
